A SPOKESMAN for supermodel Naomi Campbell last night dismissed reports that she had been rushed to hospital on the Canary Islands after a drug overdose. Her lawyer said she had suffered an allergic reaction to antibiotics.

Staff at the five star hotel where Ms Campbell (27) was staying with her flamenco dancer lover Joaquin Cortes, said the couple had a row shortly before she was taken ill.

But in a statement to the press last night, a spokesman for Ms Campbell said: "Contrary to press reports, Naomi Campbell was admitted to hospital in Gran Canaria today suffering from an allergic reaction to antibiotics."

Initial reports said Ms Campbell had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Nuestra Senora del Pino Hospital in Las Palmas, suffering from an overdose of barbiturates.

But her spokesman, Mr Jonathan Goldstein of London solicitors Olswang, said: "Ms Campbell is perfectly well and fully recovered and will be leaving hospital later today. She wishes to make it clear that there is absolutely no foundation whatsoever to the story that she had taken an overdose."

Ms Campbell was reported to have been staying in a separate room to her boyfriend in the £150 a night Santa Catalina Hotel, a favourite haunt of some of Europe's rich and famous.

Her relationship with Mr Cortes had been reported as being under strain in recent weeks. The Spanish national news agency EFE reported that guests at the hotel had complained of hearing loud noises from her room.

Her condition was last night described as "stable" as she recovered with Mr Cortes, the darling of Spain's modern flamenco scene, waiting by her bedside.

The couple had arrived on Gran Canaria, where 28 year old Mr Cortes is performing his hit show Gypsy Passion, on Friday, although it was not clear whether they arrived together.

There had been media reports that Mr Cortes had broken their stormy relationship - and the Spanish magazine Die Minutos recently published pictures of him on holiday with another woman in the southern resort of Marbella.

Ms Campbell has had other high profile romances, including a relationship with U2 bassist Adam Clayton. The couple were engaged for a time in 1993.
