FAI Cup:Defending champions Sporting Fingal were brought all the way to penalties by 10-man Limerick in tonight's fourth-round replay at Jackman Park before booking a quarter-final trip to play St Patrick's Athletic.
The game ended scoreless after 90 minutes, with the home side reduced to 10 men in the 51st minute when defender Lee O’Mara was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Limerick had also lost a player at Morton Stadium, but fought back to equalise through Stephen O’Flynn in the 91st minute and force a replay.
But there was to be no happy ending this time as Timmy Kiely and Seán Kelly both missed their spot-kicks for the home side, with Sporting crashing home their first four to seal victory 4-3.
Galway United eased through their fourth-round replay with neighbours Salthill Devon, winning 3-0 at Drom to set-up a quarter-final clash away to favourites Shamrock Rovers.
Seamus Conneely gave the visitors the lead after 15 minutes and Tom King added a second just past the hour mark. King sealed victory with 12 minutes remaining when he grabbed his second.
The other quarter-finals see Bohemians host Bray Wanderers, while Sligo Rovers have been drawn at home to Monaghan United ahead of their meeting in the League Cup final on September 25th.
