The United Nations decision to adopt the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty has been welcomed by the Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Spring. The UN voted by 158 votes to three, with five abstentions, to adopt the treaty.

Ireland has been a long standing advocate of the treaty, which is a legal instrument banning all nuclear explosions and is regarded as an essential step in the process of nuclear disarmament and non proliferation.

Mr Spring will sign the treaty in New York later this month.
