Athletics: Paul Brizzel and Anna Boyle both advanced to their respective 60-metre sprint finals which take place today at the Irish Indoor Championship at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.
Brizzel clocked a time of 6.87seconds while Boyle ran in a time of 7.50seconds. Brizzel will be disappointed though as he failed to make progress in the 400metres.
Meanwhile, James McIlroy was competing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will host the track and field programme at next month’s Commonwealth Games, and was in winning form.
The Ulsterman, the province’s best prospect for a Commonwealth title, followed up a slow first lap of 54.5secs to win his 800m race in a time of one minute 47.50 seconds.
