Dublin club St Vincent's claimed their first All-Ireland title since 1976, holding off the stern challenge of Cork's Nemo Rangers to win 1-11 to 0-13.
St Vincent's had started the stronger of the sides, taking full advantage of the strong breeze to pin the seven-time winners deep in their own territory. Indeed, there were almost 20 minutes on the clock before Nemo registered their opening score, by which stage the Dubliners had troubled the scorers on four occasions
Things got better for St Vincent's on 21 minutes, a well taken Diarmuid Connolly goal extending the lead but with the prospect of playing into the wind after the break, it was debatable if their 1-7 to 0-4 half-time lead would suffice.
Predictably, Nemo came out with all guns blazing in the second half, James Masters, who finished with seven points, leading from the front as they set about bridging the gap.
But with Mossie Quinn, who also kicked seven scores, keeping the scoreboard ticking over, albeit sporadically, at the far end Nemo were unable to get back on terms and St Vincent's held firm to claim the silverware.
