A Department of the Environment geophysics and petroleum exploration specialist has been elected to the first United Nations commission on the limits of the continental shelf.
Mr Peter Croker, from Waterford, was one of five successful candidates from western Europe who will serve on the 21 member commission. Established under the UN convention on the law of the sea, the commission is to investigate continental shelf claims made by coastal states.
