The State is seeking the forfeiture of £20,900 drawn from an account in the name of Ms Geraldine Gilligan and seized while allegedly in transit for export from the State, Dublin Circuit Civil Court has been told.
Mrs Gilligan, and her husband John Gilligan, currently imprisoned in England, and his brother, Thomas, were mentioned yesterday in proceedings before the Circuit Court president, Mr Justice Smyth.
The State alleges that the money, claimed to be the proceeds of crime, was seized from Mr Thomas Gilligan while in transit to John Gilligan in England.
The matter was struck out by Mr Justice Smyth for lack of prosecution after he was told that an inquiry with the State Solicitor's Office had revealed that no one there knew about the proceedings.
Mr Justice Smyth said striking out the proceedings in such an important matter might convey the appropriate message to the Chief State Solicitor's office. The matter was later reinstated following an explanation that no one had appeared because of an oversight. It was put down for mention next week.
