The 32 members of the State Solicitors' Association operating outside Dublin plan to withdraw their services from Monday in a dispute over the alleged non-payment by the Department of Finance of staff costs and overheads.

A review group dealing with the matter is reported to have agreed with costings by the association that there is a shortfall of £600,000 in payments made by the Department to the firms of State solicitors involved.

Mr Michael Murray, the Limerick City State Solicitor, who is president of the association, said on local radio yesterday: "We are subsidising the State prosecution system out of our own pockets. In my case it amounts to £40,000 per annum."
