Leas Cross Nursing Home and Retirement Complex
Leas Cross Nursing Home has had meetings with management of the Health Service Executive Northern Area today in order to address a number of concerns regarding the standard of care as identified by the Nursing Home Inspectorate and reflected in last night's Prime Time programme.
Considerable progress has been made in relation to improving the standards of care delivered to the residents in the Nursing Home.
In this regard, a number of steps are being put in place immediately, as set out here under:
The Health Service Executive will be assigning a Director of Nursing and senior nursing staff to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of patient care in Leas Cross on a 24-hour basis.
This will facilitate the identification of key clinical issues across all levels of care.
A clinical Governance Steering Committee is being established. This will be multi-disciplinary and will also involve a representative of the residents/families and an independent expert. Specific terms of reference will be agreed and the steering committee will oversee implementation of all recommendations as above.
An independent inquiry team is being established to investigate all areas of concern in line with the Department of Health and Children policy document "Trust in Care" - management will deal with recommendations arising.
In the medium term the Health Services Executive Northern Area and Leas Cross Nursing Home will be exploring the best possible options with regard to the future management of the nursing home.
We will be meeting with residents and their relatives and staff to advise them of these decisions as soon as possible.
Management of Leas Cross Nursing Home has decided the best course of action today is to prioritise the issues at hand.
We have therefore decided to be available to speak to the families of Leas Cross residents who may have concerns.
