NewsTalk 106 broadcaster George Hook is "in no danger" of being dropped from his radio programme The Right Hook to make way for Eamon Dunphy in the prime drive-time slot, the chief executive of the Dublin radio station, Dan Healy, said yesterday.
Speculation that former TV3 star Dunphy was to join NewsTalk and could take over from Hook on the evening current affairs show was "nonsense," Mr Healy said.
"Eamon Dunphy contributes regularly to and is a great supporter of NewsTalk. He is certainly a very strong broadcaster but he's not someone we're talking to at the moment."
Hook was "doing a great job" presenting the current affairs show, which competes with RTÉ's Five Seven Live programme and Dunphy's former Today FM show, The Last Word, currently fronted by Matt Cooper.
"George Hook will beat Matt Cooper in the ratings - there is no question of anyone replacing him. He certainly doesn't have anything to worry about. His job is in no danger."
The rumours that NewsTalk was seeking to employ Mr Dunphy had not come from inside the station, Mr Healy said.
