One of Wexford’s greatest hurlers, Nickey Rackard, was honoured in his native county yesterday afternoon when a statue in his memory was unveiled in Selskar Square.
His son Bobby, speaking at the unveiling ceremony, said the statue captured the energy and movement just prior to an explosive drive for goal and the release of what was termed a “Rackard special”.
He also told the gathering that while the statue bore the image of his father, it was also more than just a representation of one man.
Rackard is regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time.
