GARDAI are understood to be making steady progress in their investigation into the murder of Mrs Patricia Murphy.

Mrs Murphy, a mother of four, was found strangled behind a builder's skip at The Rise, off Griffith Avenue, Drumcondra, last Tuesday morning.

Searches of the area near she died, including the Tolka, have yielded a large amount of discarded clothing which is being sorted to see if it includes any of the victim's clothes.

Mrs Murphy, who was strangled but not sexually assaulted, was wearing black ski pants, a black polo top, multicoloured top and white runners on the day she was murdered.

Gardai have asked residents in the Griffith Avenue, Whitehall, and Drumcondra area to search their gardens for Mrs Murphy's clothing. It is believed her clothes were removed after she died.

They want to talk to anyone who was in The Rise, off Griffith Avenue and surrounding areas from 8 a.m. last Monday to 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Garda Press Office would not confirm reports that remnants of a black plastic bag, on which Mrs Murphy was lying, could provide vital evidence.

On Saturday gardai delivered leaflets to houses in the vicinity of The Rise, seeking assistance from the public. At checkpoints, motorists were asked if they had seen anything suspicious in the area on Monday night. Gardai have asked anyone with information to ring Whitehall Garda Station at 01 837 4356 or 837 4613.
