Steve McClaren was appointed manager of Middlesbrough today.
The announcement was made at a news conference at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium.
McClaren served as United manager Alex Ferguson's assistant for 2-1/2 years, helping the Old Trafford club secure the Champions League, three premier league titles and the FA Cup.
The 40-year-old succeeds former United captain Bryan Robson as Middlesbrough manager. Robson and his assistant Viv Anderson left by mutual consent last week.
