Gardai in the Louth/Meath division are investigating a series of antique furniture "thefts believed to be destined for the British market. In the latest incident, 10 Victorian chairs and items of silverware were taken from Dardistown Castle in Julianstown, Co Meath.

Antique furniture worth about £20,000 has also been taken from Duleek and last month there were similar thefts in the area. Gardai say some furniture has turned up in Surrey and Bristol. They believe an experienced gang is behind the thefts which are organised with a definite market and or buyer in mind.
