Jacksonville - Galeforce winds and tropical rains lashed North Carolina's southeast coast yesterday as Hurricane Dennis swept perilously close, kicking up 30 ft waves offshore. "The brunt of it really is missing the land areas. Most of the dire winds are offshore," said Mr Colin McAdie, a meteorologist with the National Hurricane Centre in Miami.
