Strike threat by security men averted

The threat of another strike by SIPTU cash-in-transit guards on Monday has been removed

The threat of another strike by SIPTU cash-in-transit guards on Monday has been removed. The union is advising members at CP Security to accept an improved offer of an increase of £2 an hour - a previous offer of £1.50p to £1.75p was rejected.

Although the ballot of staff will not conclude until Monday the union has called off all industrial action. Its members at Securicor have already voted by two to one to accept a similar increase, and members in Brinks accepted the package by a majority of three to one.

SIPTU branch secretary Mr Kevin McMahon says it will now turn its attention to the pay rates of the State's 4,000 static security guards. The latest increase brings rates for cash-in-transit personnel to £8 an hour, compared with £4.40p to £5 for static security personnel.
