CATERING staff at the Royal Dublin Hotel wilt decide today on an offer by the company to resolve an 11 week strike at the O'Connell Street establishment.
The dispute centres on pay and, conditions and SIPTU, the union representing the 35 striking workers has recommended acceptance of the offer.
It will mean a substantial pay rise for most of the striking workers, Mr Norman Croke, branch secretary for SIPTU's hotel, restaurant and catering sector, said.
The offer includes a £200 lump sum payment for the staff and improved wage rates. The rates, agreed in direct negotiations between the management and the union are higher than those recommended by the Labour Court, Mr Croke said.
He added that the settlement is subject to ongoing examination by the Labour Court which is making a comparative study with wage rates in other hotels. SIPTU had said the Royal Dublin should pay the same rates as five star hotels in the city, while the company, said it was only a three star hotel.
Negotiations are continuing between the two sides over the suspension of a worker during the strike. Three workers had originally been suspended but two had "voluntarily severed their employment", Mr Croke said.
