A teenage Co Wexford student and her 14-month-old niece were killed in a head-on collision on the main Enniscorthy to Wexford road on Saturday. Ms Pauline Greene (18), of Clonroche, was driving her niece, Rebecca Freeman, to visit her grandparents in Clonroche when her car was in collision with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

A man was killed and three people were injured when two cars collided near Ballybay, Co Monaghan, at about 3 p.m. yesterday. The man, who has not been named, came from Rockcorry, Co Monaghan, but had been living in Dundalk. A married couple and their child, who were travelling in the other car, suffered minor injuries.

In another fatal accident, Ms Elizabeth Casey (65) died on Saturday after being struck by a car while crossing a road at Tibohine, near Castlerea, Co Roscommon, on Friday night.
