An Armagh sixth-form student told a press conference in Belfast yesterday that the only way for Northern Ireland to break the cycle of its violent past and create the type of future young people wanted was for the polarised older generation to use the only effective key to peace compromise.

Sarah Williamson, a Royal School student, was sharing a platform with Conor Belton, of St Patrick's Grammar School, Cathy Kelly, of St Catherine's College, and Tracey Humphries, of the City of Armagh High School. All spoke of their aspirations and expectations for the future.

They press conference was chaired by Lord Dubs, the Environment Minister, and marked the publication of Shaping Our Future, a major review by the department of development prospects for the North extending into the next century.
