A weekend break in Dublin will set you back almost €144 more than the same weekend in the West of Ireland, it has emerged.
Ireland West Tourism have compared an action-packed weekend for two people staying in a four star guest house, a round of golf, two dinners and two lunches during the day, drinks on Friday and Saturday night, a horse riding session on Sunday and a trip to the cinema.
Taking the average prices of all of the components, the West works out at 20 per cent better value with a total saving of €144 compared to Dublin.
The biggest difference between east and west is in the price of a weekday round of golf. You can save €31.16 by playing a round in the west with the average price in Dublin being €67.44 as against €36.28 in the west, a saving of 46 per cent.
There was a marked difference in the price of food and drink. In the pub your pint of Guinness in the West will be almost 14 per cent better value at €3.39 compared with €3.93 in Dublin. A glass of red wine with your meal in the evening is 16 per cent cheaper, and the average price of a fillet steak is 14 per cent better value in the West.
Commenting of the publication of the new report, Ireland West Tourism CEO, John Concannon noted "We are delighted with the results of the survey, as it confirms Ireland’s west is an excellent value holiday location.".
He added that "the tourism industry generates an economic impact for the West of €1.9 billion and it is imperative that we continue to offer the best possible value for money. The real winner today is the visitor as in the west their holiday euro will go 20 per cent further."
