Stylish Sauvignons

Underraga Sauvignon Blanc, Lontue Valley, 1998 (widely available, usually about £5.59)

Underraga Sauvignon Blanc, Lontue Valley, 1998 (widely available, usually about £5.59). A typical tropical Chilean - but it's smooth and well made, with a nice burst of citrus in the finish. Great value.

Errazuriz Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Casablanca Valley, 1998 (widely available, £5.49£6.49). On a new high - exciting at the price. See Bottle of the Week.

Neethlingshof Sauvignon Blanc, Stellenbosch, 1998 (Oddbins, £7.99). Herbaceous and terrifically lively, this is one of the most impressive South African Sauvignons to have crossed my lips in quite a while. Really zingy. Due to arrive into stock any day now.

Menetou-Salon Morogues, Domaine Henry Pelle, 1998 (McCabes Merrion, Higgins Clonskeagh, Cheers-Gibneys Malahide, usually about £10.99). This region right next door to Sancerre can deliver quite similar wines at a less exalted price. Here's a very good example.
