Racing: Champion Hurdle hero Sublimity will not bid for a big-race double at Punchestown on Friday.

John Carr has opted to sidestep the ACCBank Champion Hurdle as he thinks the quick conditions will be against his Cheltenham Festival winner.

He said: "Everything is OK with him but I walked the track yesterday and had someone walk it for me again this morning and we have decided not to run.

"It is safe ground and they have done a good job with the watering but the rain we were expecting just hasn't come.

"It's not going to be soft enough for us so I chose to make the decision now as I don't think it is going to change that much by Friday.

"He even worked yesterday and we are bursting to run but we feel he's done enough this season and we don't want to risk him on the wrong ground."

Sublimity has only raced twice this season and although he is now set for a break, Carr could bring him back into action later in the summer.

He added: "We will just wind down with him for a couple of weeks now. We might bring him back for the Ebor at York, but if not, he will just have a light campaign over hurdles again next season."

In the absence of Sublimity, a total of eight runners have been declared for Friday's feature event at the Punchestown Festival.

The Jessica Harrington-trained Macs Joy bids to land back-to-back runnings of the two-mile event with last year's third Hardy Eustace reopposing once again.

Harrington also fields Callow Lake while Noel Meade will be triple-handed with Sweet Wake, Iktitaf and Harchibald all declared.

Strangely Brown and Silent Oscar complete the line-up.
