A High Court decision on an appeal by the parents of the 13-year-old pregnant rape victim against a Children's Court order allowing her to travel to England for an abortion is not expected to be made until tomorrow at the earliest.
Yesterday, in the High Court on the second day of the hearing, legal teams for a number of parties resumed their submissions before Mr Justice Geoghegan.
The hearing started on Tuesday and the judge ruled it should be held in camera but indicated he would give his judgment in public.
Legal sources indicated that the case would take another full day at hearing today.
Among the representatives for the parties are Mr Iarfhlaith O'Neill SC, for the parents, Mr Gerard Durcan SC, for the girl, Mr Michael McDowell SC, for the Eastern Health Board and Mr Donal O'Donnell SC, for the Attorney General.
Whatever the outcome of the hearing, the case is expected to be appealed to the Supreme Court.
The decision in the Children's Court was given last Friday and allowed the girl liberty to travel to Britain for an abortion. The girl is now 13 weeks pregnant and has been in the care of the Eastern Health Board since shortly after she was raped.
