The 171st Cork Summer Show, which was expected to attract more than 30,000 people to a 126-acre farm at Curaheen on the southside of the city, was cancelled at the weekend because of unprecedented and ongoing rain.
Organised by the Munster Agricultural Society, the show has drawn impressive crowds since the 1800s with a mix of machinery exhibits, livestock shows and everything from fruit and vegetable displays to cookery demonstrations.
Vice-chairman of the society Gerard Murphy said the event would have been a “big boost” to the area.
All exhibitor and trade entry fees will be refunded over the next three weeks.
The inter-school showjumping will now take place later this month, with the hunt harrier show rescheduled for next Saturday, both in Curaheen.
