The summer solstice was marked with the first festival in 50 years on the Hill of Tara in Co Meath on Saturday. The longest day of the year normally attracts pagans, wiccans, druids and others interested in the mythical side of Tara, and this year was no exception.
The decision to hold a festival was in response to "all the people interested in the mythical and mystical side of Tara who asked why we didn't do something", said the organiser, Mr Michael Slaven. "We decided then to use it to recall the history, traditions and legends of Tara, while celebrating its beautiful landscape and its relationship to the life-force elements that are so evident on this unique ridge."
The celebrations began at sunrise and ended at midnight.
