Also launched this week was the Discover Ireland spring/summer 1999 holiday breaks brochure, at Bord Failte's head office on Baggot Street. "This year's brochure is the biggest ever, and aimed exclusively at the home market," stressed Bord Failte's chief executive, John Dully, who was doing the launching. Speaking of the recent stampede by the sun-starved Irish for sun holidays, he cautioned "it's not the Celtic Tiger we're afraid of here - it's the weather".
Among the holidays on offer in the brochure are several with intriguing titles, such as Love Affair, Jewellery, and Meditation. Bound to be something in there for folk seeking a Valentine's Day destination: the brochure is available free at travel agencies.
Among those attending were Donal O'Meara of the Irish Hotels Federation; Sean McCartan of the Department of Tourism, Sport, and Recreation, John Colclough of Country House Tours; Niall Geoghegan of Jurys; Linda Campbell of Hidden Ireland; Ben Deane of the Green Book of Ireland; and Brendan Leahy of the Irish Tourist Industry Federation.
