TRAFFIC restrictions will begin in Dublin today because of the EU summit tomorrow and Saturday.
These measures will affect Operation Freeflow, the co ordinated effort to reduce traffic congestion, in and around the city. However, gardai are pleased with the overall traffic situation. Problems on the new Northern Cross motorway are understood to be easing,
For the summit, Forest Road, the back road at the airport, will be closed from midnight tonight until midnight on Saturday. Parking restrictions will be in operation from the airport to the city centre from noon until 10 p.m. today and from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday.
There will also be restrictions around St Stephen's Green, Merrion Square, Dame Street and Georges Street from 6 a.m. until midnight today and tomorrow and from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday. In addition, Merrion Square West and Merrion Street will be closed between 6 p.m. and midnight tomorrow.
Most street closures will be in operation from midnight tonight until midnight on Saturday, and the streets most affected are those around Dublin Castle, including the upper end of Dame Street, Parliament Street and Lord Edward Street.
