High CourtThe Sunday Independent newspaper has apologised at the High Court to a mortgage broker and auctioneer in Co Louth over an article published in the newspaper five years ago.
The apology was read as part of the settlement of a libel action brought by Aidan Carragher, North East Property Services, Dundalk, Co Louth, against the newspaper as a result of material published concerning the business on October 14th, 2007.
Counsel for Independent Newspapers, Oisín Quinn SC, read the apology which stated the Sunday Independent acknowledged that North East Property Services carried on a reputable and successful business in Dundalk for the last 20 years and that its principal Aidan Carragher was an honest and reputable mortgage broker, auctioneer and letting agent who was held in the highest esteem. “The Sunday Independent apologises to North East Property Services and in particular to Aidan Carragher for any damage done to Mr Carragher’s good reputation by the material it published on that date,” the apology stated.
