SuperValu-Centra today reported a 9 per cent rise in retail sales to €1.55 billion in 2002.
SuperValu is part of the Musgrave group, which recently overtook Dunnes Stores to become the second largest retailer in the State with 23 per cent of the market.
The company said it plans to invest €130 million in new store development and is due to open 10 new outlets this year.
Among the targeted new locations are outlets at Aston Quay, in Dublin city centre, Ratoath in Co Meath, Cavan town, Buncrana, and Co Donegal.
The company said it expects these new stores to contribute an additional €70 million in retail turnover in 2003.
Some €50 million will be invested in these new stores while a further €80 million will be invested in the refurbishment of existing outlets.
The company is also planning a capital investment, including updated information technology and logistics infrastructure which will cost an estimated €90 million.
