The Supreme Court today rejected a claim for damages by a man who claimed he was exposed to asbestos dust in the Dáil.
Mr Stephen Fletcher of Springfield, Tallaght, in Dublin had his award for £48,000 dismissed by the court today after the Office of Public Works challenged it.
Mr Fletcher was employed in assisting to remove lagging from large pipes in Leinster House. He claimed he was exposed to asbestos dust and had developed a reactive anxiety neurosis about the risk of getting cancer.
The decision is expected to put an end to a large number of similar claims by public-sector workers.
