A manufacturer of orthopaedic surgical products is to set up a plant at the Shannon Free Zone and create 250 jobs over the next five years.
Zimmer Holdings, which is headquartered in Indiana, designs, develops and makes reconstructive and spinal implants, and trauma and related orthopaedic surgical products.
The new Irish operation, with an investment of up to €50 million, will focus on the manufacture of Zimmer-branded knee and hip products.
Shannon Development and IDA Ireland were involved in attracting the company to Shannon.
The jobs were announced this afternoon by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin. He said the investment was a "tremendous win" for Ireland and the Shannon region.
"Zimmer can be confident of finding highly skilled professionals and infrastructure of international standards in this part of the country as more and more companies are discovering the benefits of locating in regional centres throughout Ireland" he said.
