The price of petrol and diesel at Irish pumps has risen by an average of 2.6 cents in the past month, according to the latest AA fuel price survey.
A litre of petrol now costs an average of 92 cent per litre (up by 2.5 cent) and diesel is now averaging 84.8 cent (up by 2.7 cent).
"It's a sharp rise in the space of a month so it is certainly unwelcome; but it is not a surprise given the recent rise in oil prices," AA public affairs manager Mr Conor Faughnan said.
"In fact we have been spared even more severe rises recently because of the Euro's rise against the dollar. But with oil prices internationally reaching $37 per barrel the outlook would appear to be poor for now," he added.
The AA's monthly survey showed some service stations with prices for unleaded petrol as low as 84 cents and as high as 99 cents. The pattern is similar for diesel prices.
"We would encourage motorists to seek out cheap prices in their own area and to give their business only where they are getting value," Mr Faughnan said.
