Paris - A homeless Frenchman suspected of committing the unsolved 1996 rape and murder of 13-year-old British schoolgirl Caroline Dickinson has been cleared by genetic testing, prosecutors said yesterday.

"They are negative," a spokesman for the prosecutors' office in the Breton city of Rennes said, referring to the results of the genetic testing. The schoolgirl was raped and suffocated in a youth hostel in the town of Pleine Fougeres while on a school trip in July 1996.
