A man reported to be a leading crime figure in Dublin has been found hanging in his cell in Mountjoy Prison.
The discovery was made by prisoners at around 12.10 pm this afternoon. Prison officers were alerted and they attempted to resuscitate the man.
He was then rushed to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 12.45.
It is understood the 34-year-old man was serving a 12-month sentence for motoring offences and was due out in April. The Garda are investigating but are not revealing further information at this time.

It is understood that the man is a regarded by gardaí as a leading figure in drug dealing in the north of the city.
