In Co Clare, a body was discovered on a roadside near Shannon in what local gardaí believe to have been a hit-and-run. The man in his 30s was discovered at 2.20 a.m. further details have not yet been released and gardaí are investigating.

Meanwhile, in the North, two men from the Republic were in Co Fermanagh when the car they were travelling in collided with a van on the Enniskillen to Kesh Road.

The dead men were named as Mr Brian Harvey of Ardaghy, Co Donegal Mr Gavin Lyons from Donegal town.

On the other side of the border in Co Louth, a 33-year-old died when the car he was in crashed into a wall in Jenkinstown outside Dundalk.

A 47-year-old man was also killed when his motorcycle collided with a car at Myshall, near Bagenalstown in Co Carlow.
