A suspected case of the SARS virus is being monitored at Letterkenny General Hospital, it has emerged.
A patient, admitted to the hospital over the course of the past weekend, is thought to have exhibited symptoms of the virus. The individual in question has not been identified.
Expert advice offered to the North Western Health Board has indicated that it is unlikely that the patient has contracted the virus - however the individual has remained in insolation at Letterkenny General Hospital, to be monitored by health experts.
The individual is said to be in a 'comfortable position' in hospital.
Officials have contacted a number of other people with regard to the suspected case.
Striking public health doctors are reported to have assisted in the handling of the case, following a request for assistance from the CEO of the North Western Health Board, Mr Pat Harvey.
