BOXING:Super-middleweight Darren Sutherland was back in the gym today, having escaped to Tenerife for the holidays with his family.
The Dubliner is preparing for his second professional bout which will take place over six rounds at Robin Park Arena, Wigan, on March 6th, against a selected opponent.
The Olympic bronze medallist stopped Georgi Iliev in the first round of his debut last month and has been eager to get back in the ring after such brief exposure on the professional scene.
After Christmas and New Year at home the 26-year-old took his family away for a week but found it hard to relax.
He was back in the gym with trainer Brian Lawrence this morning.
“It was the longest period I have spent with my parents for years and we reflected on my success,” said Sutherland.
“I ran every day while I was in Tenerife except one. I needed routine because the only thing to do was eat and sunbathe.
“I was itching to get back to the gym by the start of the New Year and I’m glad I listened to my advisors and booked the trip or else I would not have gone.
“I would have headed back to London and started training for my next fight.”
