Swedish police have issued a warrant for the arrest of the man they believe killed Foreign Minister Anna Lindh last week.
"We have indicted a man in absentia. He is suspected onreasonable grounds of the murder," Stockholm police spokeswoman Ms Agneta Styrwoldt-Alfheim said.
She said nobody had yet been arrested.
An indictment in absentia must be issued by a prosecutor andmeans law enforcement authorities have identified a suspect, intend to arrest him, but have not found him yet.
"We have a name," Stockholm county criminal police spokesmanMr Lars Gronskog said, declining further comment.
The police are under intense public and media pressure to make an arrest for Ms Lindh's murder, which brought back painful memories of the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme in Stockholm in 1986 - a case that is still unsolved.
Ms Lindh was stabbed in the chest, stomach and arms while out shopping at a Stockholm department store last Wednesday. She died on Thursday of massive bleeding despite hours of surgery.
The 46-year-old minister, who had been tipped as a possible future prime minister, had campaigned for Sweden to join the euro in Sunday's referendum. Despite the shock and emotion over her death, Swedes rejected the euro as expected.
Images captured on security cameras in the upmarket store where Ms Lindh was killed showed a young man with longish, dark hair, a baseball cap and a grey, hooded sweatshirt walking on the floor above the clothing department where she was shopping.
