Cricket: Andrew Symonds has won the battle to be included in Australia's line-up for the crucial third Ashes Test at the WACA in Perth.

The Queensland all-rounder was recalled to the squad following the shock retirement of Damien Martyn last week.

Symonds beat off competition from uncapped batsman Adam Voges and plays his first Test after nearly a year, having averaged only 19 in his first 10 appearances.

He will bat at number six with Mike Hussey and Michael Clarke both moving up one in the order to compensate for Martyn's absence.

Captain Ricky Ponting said: "I watched him pretty closely over the last few days and he has been extremely excited to be back among this group.

"He might have thought his Test career had passed him by a few months ago but he has done every training session in his baggy green cap and he is very excited to have it back on."

Andrew Flintoff, meanwhile, will lead England out having told his side they are playing one of the biggest matches of their careers in the crucial third Ashes Test.

The England captain and the rest of the squad have picked themselves up from the heartbreak of defeat on the final day at Adelaide and are now determined to bounce back from their 2-0 deficit.

No England team in history has either drawn or won a series with a 2-0 deficit and they are aware it will need another record-breaking display to halt Australia's march towards the Ashes.

"I don't think we need any more motivation," claimed Flintoff. "We're in Australia playing an Ashes series and for all of us now it's probably the biggest Test match of our careers.

"We don't need any more motivation and everyone is up for it in the dressing room. We've practised well over the last few days, Adelaide is gone now and we've moved on."

Australia: M Hayden, J Langer, R Ponting (capt), M Hussey, M Clarke, A Symonds, A Gilchrist (wkt), S Warne, S Clark, B Lee, G McGrath.
