Jermaine Pennant has been cleared to play in Birmingham's home match with Tottenham today.
Pennant must wear an electronic tag for the next two weeks after being released on parole from prison on Thursday.
The club's football secretary Julia Shelton said: "Keith Hackett, the head of the Professional Match Officials Game Board has informed me that the decision has been passed and Jermaine will be able to play wearing his tag which is good news.
"However, Keith will instruct Howard Webb, the match referee and the assessor Kieran Barratt that they both must ensure that they work in conjunction with our physios to ensure that it is correctly padded and protected by strapping, his shin pad and his sock.
"The rule is that it cannot be harmful to the player himself or his opponents and it is deemed that this won't be the case as long as these precautions are followed."
