The Taliban stronghold of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan was under heavy attack early today, with regular loud explosions being heard, CNN reported.
Mr Youssef Al-Shouli, a correspondent with Qatar's al-Jazeera satellite television, said in a live broadcast from Kandahar that the city was tense.
"Actually, right now, while speaking with you, I have heard a bomb in the city and before five minutes there was a bomb, and before 10 minutes there was a bomb," he said.
He added that after he arrived in Kandahar yesterday, rockets or bombs could be seen exploding in the south of the city near the airport.
