An Afghan engineer working for a local non-government organisation was killed and another seriously wounded by suspected Taliban guerrillas in southern Afghanistan.
The attack, the latest in recent weeks on Afghans working for humanitarian organisations, took place in the province of Helmand yesterday.
The Voluntary Association for Rehabilitation of Afghanistan worker was killed when four guerrillas attacked his vehicle on the road to the city of Kandahar in Girishk district, about 550 kilometres west of Kabul.
Two of the attackers have been arrested and were carrying documents and a satellite telephone.
Taliban guerrillas have stepped up activities in southern Afghanistan in recent months and have declared aid agency workers legitimate targets in their battle against the central government and US-led forces in the country.
Four Afghans working for a Danish aid agency were killed this month by suspected Taliban guerrillas in the province of Ghazni, southwest of Kabul.
