Hopes of averting the closure of Ferbane power station rose last night following intensive informal contacts by the ESB group of unions with the ESB and the MSF trade union. These are to resume early today and the Joint Industrial Council may be asked to intervene once more, if terms of reference can be agreed for negotiations on the role of the three instrumentation technicians at the midlands plant.
