Nicosia - Open-ended talks starting next month to resolve the dispute over Cyprus ought to start yielding results by June 2002, President Glafcos Clerides said yesterday.
Direct talks between Mr Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Mr Rauf Denktash were brokered in Nicosia last week in a surprising breakthrough to a stalemate that could complicate EU enlargement and undermine stability on NATO's southern flank.
"Mr Denktash has said we must try to solve the Cyprus problem by June ... it is a logical time frame to see whether there are (settlement) prospects," Mr Clerides said.
