Ahern campaign:Taoiseach Bertie Ahern had his lowest-profile day of the election campaign to date yesterday and took part in no public engagements or publicised canvasses.

Fianna Fáil's national press office said Mr Ahern was spending the day in his Dublin Central constituency, and was engaged in local canvassing.

The office had no detail about the areas of his constituency Mr Ahern was canvassing in, saying it was a matter for the Dublin Central constituency organisation. His car was seen outside his constituency office of St Luke's in Drumcondra yesterday evening.

Other candidates in the Dublin Central constituency said they had not encountered Mr Ahern or his canvassers yesterday.
