It isn't every day the leader of the country appears on the cover of Time Magazine and it appears that the Taoiseach or someone in his department wanted to savour the moment.

New spending data reveals the Department of the Taoiseach bought two prints of photographs of Enda Kenny which appeared in Time last October.

The appearance of the Taoiseach on the cover caused quite a stir last year when its European edition featured Mr Kenny's photograph beneath a green Time logo with the accompanying headline "The Celtic Comeback". The payment of just €112 for the prints, plus €18 for postage, was made to the company of the photographer behind the images, Levon Biss, whose portfolio also includes photographs of celebrities such as Quentin Tarantino, Ricky Gervais and Samuel L Jackson as well as famous athletes including Rory McIlroy, Usain Bolt, Jessica Ennis and Didier Drogba.

The payment was recorded as being made in November 2012 but appears in a database, provided to The Irish Times under the Freedom of Information Act.
