The Taoiseach is in the Polish capital Warsaw today for a one-day visit during which held talks on EU issues with the Prime Minister Marek Belka.
The Taoiseach will this evening receive an award from Polish businessmen for Ireland's role as EU president last year, where a deal on the EU Constitution was brokered.
Poland, alongside nine other countries, joined the EU in a lavish accession ceremony in Dublin lat May during Ireland's EU presidency.
Mr Ahern flew into Bulgaria last night to hold talks with Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg and President Georgi Parvanov - as the Bulgarian government survived a no-confidence vote over its alleged failure to raise living standards in the EU candidate country.
Mr Ahern was presented with the country's highest award to recognise Ireland's support for Bulgaria's EU membership bid.
