The Taoiseach Mr Ahern, is visiting Bahrain on the final leg of his visit to South East Asia and the Arab Gulf region, where he will meet the Prime Minister and the King of Bahrain.

Mr Ahern will meet with the Prime Minister HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, where the focus will be primarily on trade relations.

Prior to his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Taoiseach will meet with Irish business representatives in Bahrain and will launch a new booklet from Enterprise Ireland.

The Taoiseach aims to raise the profile of Enterprise Ireland in Bahrain and to  help participating Irish companies consolidate relationships and increase  business with key existing or potential clients.

The Taoiseach and the Prime Minister will then attend the official opening of the University of Bahrain, a joint venture between the Bahrain Government and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The University will deliver degrees in medicine.

The curriculum has been developed by the RCSI to the highest international standards with qualifications that will be recognised worldwide.

The Taoiseach will then meet with the King HM Sheikh Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa and visit the Bahrain National Museum and also attend a reception for members of the Irish community in Bahrain
