SIPTU members at Tara Mines are holding a general meeting in Navan today to review their position, following the company's decision to press ahead with the introduction of Canadian miners.
The Canadians are due to begin work at 8 a.m. on Monday.
The Finnish-owned company wants to use the Canadians to begin development mining of a major new orebody. A dispute with local miners over the implementation of a productivity agreement has led to falling production at the troubled plant.
SIPTU members may allow the Canadians to enter the mine for acclimatisation and inspection.

But it is understood that local miners are likely to take industrial action if the Canadian begin to "break rock".
