US director Quentin Tarantino will attend the Irish premiere of his new film, Death Proof, in Dublin on September 14th.
After the screening in the Savoy cinema, he will participate in a question-and-answer session chaired by Gráinne Humphreys, director of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. The festival has organised the event in association with Momentum Pictures, the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films.
Tarantino (47) first made his mark as a director with 1992 thriller Reservoir Dogs. His next film, Pulp Fiction, won the principal prize, the Palme d'Or, at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.
He went on to direct Jackie Brownand the two-part action drama Kill Bill. The new film, Death Proof, is his homage to 1970s US B-movies and features Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Rose McGowan and Zoe Bell.
"With this special screening of Death Proofand especially with the great Quentin Tarantino in attendance, the festival is building on its reputation as a world-class film festival," Ms Humphreys said yesterday.
"This is the first of an occasional series of unique events that will deepen its engagement with cinema audiences throughout the year. Our festival celebrates cinema from around the world and, with his latest film, Tarantino has produced a bloody valentine to the B movies of his youth, a dizzying spectacular packed full of cinematic references."
